10 years of Galaxy Technology Services: From a small dream to a global journey

Some journeys begin with a simple yet powerful belief: that Vietnamese talent can build a technology company with the capability, resilience, and ambition to compete on the global stage. The story of Galaxy Technology Services (GTS), formerly known as BStar Solutions, began with that very belief.

 

The Beginning of a Vision

 

Before embarking on their entrepreneurial journey, the company’s first two founders, Mr. Do Vuong Phong, now CEO of GTS, and Mr. Truong Minh Huynh, now CTO of GTS, had the opportunity to work extensively with the Japanese market—renowned for its precision, discipline, and exceptionally high standards. That experience left a lasting impression on them. They learned that succeeding in the technology industry requires more than technical expertise; it demands discipline, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to quality. Later, while working at a highly efficient U.S. technology company, they witnessed how a team of just 26 people could generate $26 million in value.

The experience sparked a fundamental question: Why couldn’t Vietnamese professionals build a technology company capable of achieving the same level of excellence and impact?

That question would eventually become the foundation of BStar Solutions.

 

2016: When the Dream Took Shape

 

In 2016, a life-changing decision was made.

The founders left the security of their careers and returned to Vietnam to build a company of their own.

No significant capital.

No powerful backing.

Only determination, conviction, and an initial investment of VND 36 million funded through a credit card.

With that modest amount, the first office furniture was purchased, a small 60-square-meter office was rented at Quang Trung Software Park, and a technology dream began to take shape.

From the very beginning, BStar chose not to think small. The company positioned itself to serve demanding, high-profile clients – well-established enterprises and multinational corporations seeking long-term technology partners capable of delivering world-class solutions.

After careful consideration, Singapore was selected as the company’s first target market. Without a recognized brand name or an extensive portfolio, BStar persuaded prospective clients to give them an opportunity, even offering services free of charge in exchange for one thing: the right to place the BStar logo on completed projects as proof of capability.

 

The First Setback and a Lesson in Professionalism

 

The company’s first major opportunity arrived quickly, but it also delivered an important lesson. Only a few months after its establishment, BStar had the opportunity to work with a multinational corporation from Malaysia. However, the project did not proceed beyond the initial site visit. The issue was not technical capability. Instead, it was the impression created by the company’s office facilities, which did not meet the expectations of international clients. That setback prompted the founders to confront an important reality: serving large enterprises requires more than excellent technology. It also requires presenting the image of a professional, credible organization from the very first interaction.

With that realization came a bold decision. Despite limited resources, the founders chose to leave the existing office and invest in a more professional working environment. During this challenging period, one of the co-founders, Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, leveraged family-owned land valued at VND 600 million to help finance the construction of a new office at 56 Yen The Street. It was more than a financial commitment—it was a powerful statement of belief in the company’s future.

The company later expanded with an additional office at 60 Truong Son Street, laying a stronger operational foundation for the next phase of growth.

Accelerating Growth and Expanding Horizons

 

From its new headquarters, BStar began winning larger clients and entered its first major growth phase. The leadership team reassessed its market strategy and made the decision to return to Japan – a highly demanding market, but one with tremendous long-term potential. To strengthen this effort, BStar successfully attracted three additional co-founders with extensive experience in the Japanese market, including Ms. Nguyen Bich Thuy, who currently serves as Deputy CEO of GTS. This strategic move enhanced the company’s market expertise while helping elevate service quality to international standards.

During this period, BStar also made a significant investment in RFID solutions, an emerging technology at the time. The initiative proved transformative, enabling the company to secure projects with leading organizations including Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, Vinpearl, and later Boston Scientific across six countries.

This period marked a turning point, as BStar achieved strong growth, financial stability, and greater recognition throughout the regional technology market.

 

Resilience Through the COVID-19 Pandemic

 

The years 2019 to 2021 represented one of the most challenging periods in the company’s history. As expansion plans in Japan and Thailand were gaining momentum, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted operations across the globe. Some employees found themselves stranded overseas for more than a year, while the company faced unprecedented operational and human challenges.

Yet it was during this difficult period that the true character of the organization emerged. The company remained determined. It refused to stop. And it continued searching for new paths forward. Through resilience, adaptability, and the collective commitment of its people, BStar successfully navigated the crisis and expanded its footprint across 12 countries, demonstrating its ability to grow even in the most uncertain circumstances.

 

Joining Galaxy Holdings: A New Chapter Begins

 

Toward the end of 2021, another major milestone arrived. Following strategic discussions with Madame Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, BStar officially joined the Galaxy Holdings Digital Ecosystem. This was far more than a business transaction.

It marked the beginning of a new chapter. From a startup built on courage, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit, BStar became a strategic component of a broader vision—contributing to the development of digital technology capabilities across the Sovico ecosystem.

 

Continuing to Reach New Milestones

 

The journey continued with new achievements.

In 2024, the office at 60 Truong Son officially relocated to Galaxy Innovation Hub (Floor 10), bringing the company together with the broader Galaxy Holdings Digital Ecosystem under one roof. The move symbolized more than a change of address; it represented greater integration, collaboration, and organizational maturity.

In 2025, BStar Solutions officially rebranded as Galaxy Technology Services, reflecting a renewed vision and expanded strategic direction.

Then, in April 2026, GTS officially opened its office in Japan – a meaningful milestone that brought the company’s journey full circle, returning to the market that had inspired its founding vision years earlier.

As we reflect on the past ten years, the most meaningful achievements are not simply the offices established, the markets entered, or the growth milestones achieved.

What matters most is the spirit that has remained unchanged throughout the journey!

The courage to dream big from humble beginnings.

The commitment to quality and credibility above all else.

The determination to persevere through the toughest challenges.

And the passion to keep growing, innovating, and creating value.

Perhaps that is why June 1st – International Children’s Day – was chosen as the company’s founding date. The founders hoped that BStar, and today Galaxy Technology Services, would always preserve the spirit of a child: curious, fearless, energetic, ambitious, and eager to explore new possibilities while continuing to “Enjoy Business” throughout its journey of growth.
